  1. Eliminate Assumptions

When depth players meet, it is easy to make assumptions based on past depth fisting experience. .

After applying lube to your hands, apply additional lube directly to the hole so that it can absorb the moisture and feel lubricated. Alternatively, you can apply enough lube to your hands so that the lube is still dripping off them when you first touch the bottom's hole.

    Lubing
  2. Know Your Guts

In elementary, punch, and stretch play, extensive anatomical knowledge is unnecessary. With depth play, understanding the key components of the upper fist chute, including how they should feel for safe passage and deeper advancement prevents activities and behavoirs that cause injury.

Tops should have a basic understanding of the upper fist chute. Bottoms should have similar knowledge so they can communicate with tops and evaluate a top's skill. If his technique appears to ignore basic anatomy, he should not be playing in the upper fist chute.

  3. Moderate Alcohol, Popper, and Chem Use

Many fisters use substances to make advancement easier. Excessive use becomes problematic when it impairs situational awareness, reduces sensation, or interferes with the ability to give and maintain consent.

  4. Warm Up Appropriately

Like a traditional workout, skipping the warm-up phase can result in injury, particularly microtears. Spend time gradually stretching and relaxing the pelvic floor muscles and fist chute before going whole hog.

For deeper play, follow the Rhythmic Reset technique, which alternates small advances with immediate retractions to avoid shocking the fist chute and causing it to resist further advancement.

  5. Lubricate Appropriately

Lubrication reduces friction and allows hands and toys to move through the fist chute without catching or dragging. Insufficient lubrication increases friction and the potential for tears and perforations.

Novice depth players commonly believe that more lube and deeper lube are shortcuts to depth. They are not. Lubrication cannot compensate for a fist chute that has not been conditioned to accommodate firm objects at depth. Adding more lube and pushing harder creates false confidence rather than greater readiness.

Certain application methods introduce additional risk. Devices designed to deposit lube deep in the fist chute can concentrate force against a small area of tissue and cause injury. Inserting a lubrication device alongside a hand or toy further restricts available space and increases pressure against the colon wall, increasing the risk of perforation.

  6. Manage Hole Gluttony & Greed

Depth fisting can be intensely rewarding, making it easy to want more. Gluttony is the desire for more sensation, intensity, or time. Greed is the desire for greater depth and bigger gains. Neither is inherently problematic until the pursuit of more begins to override restraint.

Extended, highly aggressive sessions—especially those focused on reaching new depths or increasingly intense sensations—can substantially increase the opportunity for injury. Know when enough is enough. Greater depth and greater intensity will still be there another day.

  7. Stop Pushing Limits

Pushing limits during depth fisting is highly problematic. Gains in depth are usually minute, often no more than half a centimeter over several—or even dozens of—sessions.

Trying to accelerate those gains increases the risk of tears and perforation.

The risk increases when the top, rather than the bottom, drives the advancement. A bottom eager for greater depth may stop listening to his body, while an equally eager top may push against a tight or unresponsive area that is not ready to advance.

Tops and bottoms should accept that depth gains come slowly and avoid forcing advancement before the body is ready.

  8. Listen to Your Body

Visceral (gut/colon) pain does not behave like traditional pain. First, it may be difficult to pinpoint and may be felt far from the area being stimulated or injured. Fisters have reported unusual sensations or pain in seemingly unrelated areas of the body, including near the shoulder, by the appendix, or even in the lower legs. Second, visceral pain may not present as expected. Many fisters expect colon pain to be sharp, stabbing, or overwhelming. Instead, pain may be dull or vague, like a bruise, or it may be absent altogether. The location and intensity of pain may therefore provide an unreliable indication of what is happening internally.

Fisters who have been injured have simply reported that something felt off. This sensation may occur before an injury, such as when a hand or toy is pressing against or moving through the body in an unusual way.

Trust the "something's off" sensation and discontinue depth advancement. Pull back and allow for a reset. Resume only if the sensation dissipates. If something continues to feel off or not right, do not wait for sharp or severe pain to diagnose a serious injury. Begin monitoring vital signs and other indicators, such as nausea, changes in urination, or an inability to pass gas.

  9. Follow Fisting Protocols
  10. When inserting a hand, follow a progressive strategy.

At the beginning of a session, a closed fist will not enter a hole without causing damage. Start with a single finger and work up to a full, duck-billed hand based on how loose the hole is:

    • For tight holes, you will need to massage around the entire perimeter with each additional finger inserted.
    • For loose holes, reduce the amount of time before full penetration. Jump quickly from one to three fingers, then four or five.

Once you have four fingers inserted, rotate slowly around the hole to see if a slack point exists. A slack point is looser and more accommodating than the rest of the perimeter. Insert the full hand in duck-billed position at this slack point.

    Fingering
  11. Take advantage of this highly sensitive area.

The lips and taint are extremely sensitive to light touch, dry touch, and wet touch. Tickling the area, rimming, and soft strokes from the bottom of the balls to the far side of the hole will cause your bottom to relax.
